Laboratory Instrumentation
The experimental laboratory for biological analyses is organized with workspaces for 25 researchers, two cell colture rooms, a microbiology room, and dedicated rooms for the instrumentation. The instrumentation includes a quantitative Real Time PCR machine, a protein two dimensional electrophoresis set-up, and instruments for the morphological and ultra-structural characterization, namely: a confocal microscope, a transmission electron microscope, a fluorescence microscope, and all the necessary equipment for the optimal sample preparation.
The laboratory for the monitoring of nanoparticles in environmental matrices operates the main part of its activities in a dedicated class ISO7 clean room, where an asymmetric FlFFF (Asymmetric Flow Field Flow Fractionation) instrument is located, to separate particles according their hydrodynamic diameter. The laboratory is also equipped with instruments to analyze the size and the Z potential of the particles, and analytical instruments to monitor environmental parameters, namely a ion chromatography machine, and a total nitrogen and carbon analyzer.
